API Aquarium Salt 1910gm (SKU: APH266) is made from natural evaporated sea salt to promote overall health and physiological balance in freshwater fish. Unlike synthetic marine salts, API Aquarium Salt supplies essential electrolytes—such as sodium, potassium, and chloride—that freshwater fish need for healthy gill function and osmoregulation (fluid balance). It promotes a healthy slime coat, reduces stress during transitions, and aids in recovery from diseases and external parasites like Ich (whitespot).

Usage & Application

When to Use

• Routine Maintenance & Water Changes: Add during water changes to replace essential electrolytes lost to filtration and plant uptake.

• Setting Up New Aquariums: Add to fresh tap water to ease fish acclimatisation and reduce stress in new environments.

• Disease & Parasite Treatment: Use as a natural supportive treatment during outbreaks of Ich (whitespot), velvet, or fungal infections.

How to Use

1. Standard Dosage: Add 1 rounded tablespoon (1/2 oz) per 19 L (5 US gallons) or 1/2 level teaspoon per 3.8 L (1 US gallon) of aquarium water.

2. Dissolve the required amount of salt in a small container of aquarium water prior to adding it to the tank.

3. Important: Salt does not evaporate and is not removed by biological filtration. Only add salt when replacing water during routine water changes (do not add salt for simple water top-offs).
