Aquasonic Methylene Blue 100ml (SKU: AQS20) is a classic antifungal, antiparasitic, and mild antibacterial solution widely used in fish keeping and aquaculture. It is exceptionally effective at protecting fish eggs against fungal attacks (Saprolegnia) during artificial hatching, treating mild skin/gill protozoans, and assisting fish recovering from nitrite or cyanide poisoning by improving cellular oxygen uptake in the bloodstream. Suitable for both freshwater and marine aquariums, it offers a gentler alternative to stronger treatments like malachite green or formalin. While effective as a preventative measure, Methylene Blue is less potent against advanced fungal infections.

Usage & Application

When to Use

• Egg Hatching Protection: Add to egg-tumblers or breeding tanks to prevent fungal takeover on fertile fish eggs, preventing fungal or bacterial infections in fish eggs

• Treating early signs of mild fungal infections, as supportive therapy during mild protozoan outbreaks

• Nitrite Toxicity Recovery: Use in hospital tanks to help fish recover from nitrite poisoning or severe respiratory distress.

• Dip & Bath Treatments: Situations where stronger medications may harm fish or eggs. Excellent for short-term dip baths to treat external fungal or protozoan skin issues on stressed fish.

How to Use

1. For Egg Protection: Add 1 to 2 drops per L of water in breeding containers until the water turns a faint light blue.

2. For Aquarium/Hospital Tank Treatment: Remove active carbon filter media. Add 5 mL per 20 L of water.

3. Shake bottle well before use. Remove activated carbon from filtration before treatment. Avoid combining with other medications unless directed. Monitor fish and water clarity throughout the treatment period

4. Note on Biological Filtration: Methylene Blue can reduce nitrifying bacteria efficacy and will stain tank decorations and clear silicone. Use in dedicated hospital tanks, tubs, or breeding setups where possible.

5. Perform a 30% to 50% water change after treatment and use fresh activated carbon to clear remaining colour from the water.
