Description
API Calcium Test Kit Liquid 1.25oz Saltwater
The API Calcium Test Kit Liquid 1.25oz (SKU: APH228) measures calcium levels in saltwater and reef aquariums. Calcium is an essential element required by reef-building stony corals, crustaceans, clams, and beneficial coralline algae to form their skeletal structures and shells. Maintaining proper calcium levels (typically 400 to 480 mg/L) is critical for healthy reef growth. This titration test kit provides accurate, reliable readings so aquarists can properly manage calcium dosing.
Usage & Application
When to Use
-
Routine Reef Maintenance: Test weekly to monitor calcium consumption by corals and invertebrates.
-
Dosing Calibration: Check levels before and after adding calcium supplements or adjusting calcium reactors.
-
New Reef Stocking: Test before introducing new stony corals, clams, or shell-bearing invertebrates to ensure optimal water chemistry.
How to Use
-
Fill a clean test tube with 5 mL of saltwater from the aquarium.
-
Add 10 drops of Calcium Test Solution #1, cap the tube, and shake to mix.
-
Add Calcium Test Solution #2 drop-by-drop, shaking the tube after each drop. Count the drops required for the solution to change from pink to blue.
-
Multiply the total number of drops used by 20 to determine the calcium concentration in mg/L (ppm).

Additional Information
The API CALCIUM TEST KIT accurately measures calcium concentrations down to 20 mg/L. Calcium levels naturally decrease over time as invertebrates absorb calcium from the aquarium water. The kit includes two calcium testing solutions, a capped glass test tube, and an instruction sheet with a colour chart. It is designed specifically for use in reef aquariums.
